CommentsThe free version of the Diabetic Recipe App & Planner pulls together a range of recipes and meal ideas from various internet blogs, video channels and sources. The content is suitable for general idea generation. It's not clear if the recipes are tried and tested or reviewed by a diabetes dietitian. Although some recipes may be lower in sugar, or use sugar substitutes, they still may contain excess of other nutrients, eg, saturated fat. The app doesn't help the user understand the recipe choice in the context of other meals they may be consuming, and doesn’t take medication regime, activity or fluid consumption into consideration.
Advice from a registered dietitian or health professional should be sought before integrating the app into the dietary management of diabetes.
Safety concerns: This app should be used in conjunction with an understanding of a balanced diet for diabetes management including the need to understand portion size, meal timing, moderation, carbohydrate counting (when applicable). In addition users should have a good understanding of their diabetes medication and how it's influenced by food consumed.
New Zealand relevance: Diabetes affects individuals in different ways, and dietary and medical management of the condition varies. This app is not suitable for all people living with diabetes and advice from a registered dietitian or health professional should be sought before integrating the app into the dietary management of individual patients with diabetes.
